Courses Offered
There are three Veterinary Assistant Programs offered:
- Certified Veterinary Assistant Level I
- Certified Veterinary Assistant Level II
- Certified Veterinary Assistant Level III
The Certified Veterinary Assistant for Levels I, II, and III all aim to promote continuing education for veterinary medical personnel.
These programs are designed to teach important knowledge and skills so that members of the veterinary medical team can become more reliable and trustworthy on the job.
Offered exclusively to the members and staff of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association, they feature the following:
- Education manual – This contains educational text, exercises, and other learning experiences to teach a wide range of skills and competencies needed to get certified.
- Skills development – This focuses on developing competencies in various foundational skills.
- Work experience – This involves 500 hours of on-the-job training.
- Testing – This is a comprehensive certification exam that assesses knowledge and skills.
To receive certification, the following requirements have to be met:
- Complete 90 days of work experience under the supervision of a Licensed Vet or Vet Technician
- 100% successful mastery of required material and demonstration of hands-on skills
- Completed and approved Exam Application and Skills Validation Checklist
- Successful completion of the certification examination – 70%
All applicants have to pass the Certified Veterinary Assistant Level I examination to be able to take the Certified Veterinary Assistant Level II exam.
Then, they need to pass both the Certified Veterinary Assistant Levels I and II exams before they can proceed to take the Certified Veterinary Assistant Level III exam.
